How Your Thoughts Create Your Brain
How Thoughts Change Your Brain
Every thought creates a neural connection. If you think a thought often enough the neural connection will grow strong, particularly if there’s an emotional attachment to it. Conversely, if a memory has little use, is rarely stimulated, or has no emotional attachment, eventually those neural connections will largely wither away from disuse.
Thoughts also change your brain by stimulating the production of brain chemicals which can change the structure and function of your brain.
A good example is what happens to your brain under stress. When a situation you perceive as stressful occurs, it increases your level of the stress hormone cortisol.
Prolonged exposure to cortisol literally excites some of your brain cells to death, particularly in the hippocampus where memories are stored. This alarmingly can cause measurable shrinkage in this part of the brain.
Conversely, stress feeds the amygdala, your fear center, causing it to grow, leaving you more fearful and anxious.
Excess cortisol halts the formation of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein which acts like fertilizer to the encourage the growth of new brain cells.
Research suggests that chronic stress stimulates proteins that might even be the cause of Alzheimer’s.
As requested here is a tutorial on how I create the ombre nail!

Doily Nail Art Tutorial by Hey, Nice Nails
We were originally going to explain how to create this nail art look by exaggerating this tutorial by the lovely ladies at Polish You Pretty, but someone asked if we would make a tutorial so we decided to give it a go! Enjoy.
1. Apply a base color. The color in the photo is Essie Cocktail Bling
2. Using a contrasting color, paint two heart shaped lobes at the tip of the nail
3. Outline the top of the heart in white
4. Use a large sized dotting tool to make white circles around the top of the heart
5. With your base color and a smaller sized dotting tool, make small dots inside the larger white dots
6. Use the smaller dotting tool and make small white dots around the inside of the heart
7. Top everything off with a good thick layer to topcoat to seal in your artwork!
I made a tutorial! I hope this is something that possibly helps people, because I know some people said they wanted to try out my stippling gradient nails.
Okay, so words to go with the pictures:
First you need to paint your nails with which ever color you like. In my original nails I chose a black base, but I like white much better. Then, using a tiny dotting tool (or a needle, possibly a toothpick, I used a #18/0 spotter brush) make a bunch of dots near the tip of your nail, so many that barely any of the base color shows through. You can use nail polish for this, but I chose to use acrylic paint. After that keep working in sections, using less and less dots and making the sections ever so slightly bigger until you reach your cuticle. If you have long nails you could probably stop before the cuticle, or you could just make the sections bigger. I like to do four sections, but you could do more or less depending on how gradual you want the gradient.
If there’s any confusion please let me know and I’ll try to clarify!
